The Church measures time not in minutes, but centuries. Eventually, they even catch up with technological trends. And ever-so-slowly, the Holy See is catching up with years-old communication trends. The Holy Father will soon be joining Twitter. Try to contain your excitement.
I imagine they were just waiting for the last Vatican carrier pigeon to die before they could make so bold a move. But even though starting a Twitter account takes only a couple of minutes, you won't be seeing any "papal tweets" until the end of the year.
