Another Penitential Day

Today is the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It's placed on the liturgical calendar 19 days after the Feast of Pentecost.

It's observed as a penitential day traditionally echoing some of the themes from Good Friday.

Friday, remember, is still a day of abstinence. The teaching is that abstaining from meat is still in effect. However, those who choose not to do, may REPLACE THE ABSTINENCE WITH A PENITENTIAL ACT.

Consider today spending some time in prayer. Pray for your soul and for the pardon of your sins. Go to Confession, if possible. Do something good for someone. Make a point to at least TEXT someone you care about. Read some Scripture. Go to Mass if you can.

And even though Summer is a time for reckless abandon, abstain from meat today. Even though it seems to be a Summer food...
This is a plot to tempt Catholics from abstaining. The beach! The surf. THE MEAT TRAY! AHHHH!!!
