As it was in the beginning...

On the 25th of this month, Bishop Latino marked his 50th year of priesthood. One of his sacramental ministers sent me this photo of the young Fr. Joseph Latino on the day of his ordination.

One year after the production of the 1962 Missal which is the last word (literally) on the celebration of Mass in the Tridentine Rite, Fr. Latino displays some of the more traditional features of our liturgical tradition:

Maniple? Check. Amice? Check. Fingers held in Tridentine fashion? Check. Non-sanctioned illicit chalice? Check.

Skip ahead to Bishop Latino in the FUTURE!

Maniple? Nope. Amice? Nope. Fingers held in Tridentine Fashion? Nope. Non-sanctioned illicit chalice? CHECK!

Who knows the direction a young priest's life will take from their ordination?
