The Church: "hospital for sinners"

"Enter into the Church and wash away your sins. For there is a hospital for sinners and not a court of law."
- St. John Chrysostom (d. 407)

Humility is a necessary and good thing. But quite often in our Christian lives, we suffer from a delusion that masks itself as humility: a delusion that would have us to believe that we are not 'good enough' to go to Mass. Ponder the quote above.

When we are at our weakest, our most despicable, our lowest point, spiritually - that is when we are most in need of God's healing grace. That is when we should run to (not shy away from) the Church. Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, is only a few hours away. Our souls are sick. The Great Physician is calling and waiting, patiently, to heal us. May we not turn away his merciful offer to heal our souls. May we run to his "hospital."
