Happy Birthday to yo' Momma

Nativity of the Virgin Mary by Pietro Cavallini, 1291 (mosaic).
Today, on the Church calendar, is the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In other words, today is Mary's birthday. It'd be a great idea to say a short prayer of thanks to God for her birth, her life, and her example. And, you could attend Mass. And maybe a "Hail Mary" is in order, too?

Some of us are really good at remembering our mom's birthday. We send a card, or even flowers, and we might even travel home for a birthday meal and cake. As Christians, we have a responsibility to honor our mom in this way (remember the fourth Commandment?). As busy as college life can be, don't make the mistake of neglecting your relationship with your parents. After all of the hustle and bustle of your college years have passed, they will still be there for you. Make sure that they know how much you appreciate all they do.

Saying a prayer is a great way to mark today's feast day on the Church calendar. After all, Mary is the mother of all Christians (John 19:27) and we should honor her as such. But another way to honor this day, might be to call your own mom and dad. Or send them an email. Or a text. Just to say "thanks."
